An iOS and Android app for checking whether you can legally camp at a spot in NSW. Tap a location on the map and it tells you the rules, covering all 128 local government areas, national parks, state forests, and crown land, with live fire danger ratings and total fire bans from the NSW RFS overlaid on top.
Everything runs on-device. All the spatial data is bundled into the app as GeoJSON, and tapping a spot runs point-in-polygon checks locally with an R-tree index and Turf. No backend, no accounts, no data leaving your phone. You can save spots you've checked, switch between road, satellite, and topo layers, and adjust each layer's opacity. Built with Expo and MapLibre GL Native.
It started life as a browser PWA, which is still live: you can try the concept at canicamp.vercel.app. The native app is where the work is now, heading for the App Store.
